Jennifer Iwanicki of Curation Station & Hello Viking

Posted by on Friday, 23 March, 2012

Greetings everyone! Today’s #MNMOtv guest today is @jiwanicki (Jennifer Iwanicki) of the @curationstation. Lets get to know her!

Jennifer:    Hello Everyone! Glad to be here.

Share a little bit about your early years. Where did you grew up, attend school and what job did you want as an adult?

Jennifer:    I’m from Massachusetts. (Go Pats! @patriots) I thought I would be a lawyer when I grew up.

But I even changed that and played music in a rock band for a while before entering a career in management.

You’ll get the hang of it. So what kinds of companies did you first work for? When did you get the entrepreneur bug?

Jennifer:    I began managing a clothing company.Where I began writing code as a developer. I had a side business: Hullabaloo.

Hullabaloo created multimedia events in the city of Boston.

Great name! re: Hullaboloo – What got you to move to MN from the East Coast?

Jennifer:    The cold :)

Seriously, there was an opportunity for my family here, and we moved for that.

When I got here, I was incredibly impressed with the marketing community and went to my first MIMA event @mimatweet

When did you start with @HelloViking, and how did the idea of @CurationStation come to you?

Jennifer:    Ahh, yes! HV was started in 2007

My partner @tbrunelle and I started the company after winning a project with PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Curation Station was birthed out of Hello Viking. Through working with marketers, we noticed a need.

So we spent some time doing alpha & beta testing with some key groups and developed Curation Station based on the feedback.

The need we identified was in how to put digital content to work and be more efficient in doing so

What kind of response have your gotten with @curationstation?

Jennifer:    The response for content curation has been huge. We are fulfilling the needs of agencies, CMO’s, etc

We are doing this through engagement, content management, gained efficiencies, etc.

The tool is quite flexible and powerful. We continue to be excited by the possibilities for use.

What did you think when @MNMOmag approached you about being included in their “the Revolutionaries” magazine section?

Jennifer:    So many emotions! Shock, excitement, flattery. The list goes on. And I wondered what it meant, right?

I mean, it’s an honor and someone I have aspired to- to think outside of the box and try new things.

So to be recognized for that within the group of Minnesotans who were also recognized is thrilling.

But there are so many people who have helped and guided me to this place. And I thank them all.

Congrats! So what’s on the radar for you now? More new Biz ideas? Got any professional goals you’re striving to achieve?

Jennifer:    Today, I have my hands full with the current businesses. My focus right now is on growth.

But I am always thinking about ways to become more efficient professionally.

I do have more ideas for projects and products. And suspect I will get to those eventually

Joel:    Sounds like some good plans Jennifer. Thanks for your time today and thanks for being a part of #MNMOtv!

Jennifer:    Thank you Joel. It was my pleasure. And a truly unique experience!

Matt McCormack discusses the Minnesota Swarm

Posted by on Monday, 5 March, 2012

Good Friday morning everyone! Do you know what the @NLLNetwork is? Do you know who the @Minnesota_Swarm are? Matt McCormack does!

Matt:    Looking forward to sharing!

Welcome Matt! So when did the NLL first start and when did the #Swarm first start?

Matt:    Surprising to many, especially here, – the #NLL is actually in it’s 26th year. The #MNSWARM are in our 8th season.

How many teams are currently in the league, and how are the #swarm doing at the midway point of the season?

Matt:    9 teams in the #NLL. The season has been exciting 4-3 right now (best start since ’08) with VERY young team. (cont)

Had 4 #AllStars, defending scoring champ @beniboi21 off to great start; @EvanKirk35 was the Feb Rookie of the month

That’s great new about @beniboi21 and @EvanKirk35! There was a coaching change too. Is that hard for the players?

Matt:    Changes are always hard, but necessary sometimes. Coach Sullivan has been here 3 years, (cont)

(cont) as an assistant and this summer as Associate GM and players are very comfortable with him and the staff.

Good! When it comes to branding/mrktg, with many other professional sports teams here, how do you try to stand out?

Matt:    It can be tough to break through the noise, that’s for sure. We do what we can to keep a few things in mind: (cont)

1) do more with less 2) stay relevant 3) don’t be afraid to try different things 4) keep #lacrosse growing in MN.

In attending a game recently, it looks like it’s VERY popular with families. How do you target them so well?

Matt:    #Lax community has always shown great support- we work them into the game as much as possible.

You’ve seen the field pre-game- we couldn’t fit many more on it!

We also work to keep prices family friendly which is important to us.

What kinds of special packages and events do you have coming up for fans? Remind people to where you play. :)

Matt:    With 4 games left the rest of the season will be exciting @XcelEnergyCtr! (cont)

2 big promos coming up are #HeroesNight (3/30) http://mnswarm.com/heroes and #HiveCares (4/21) which benefits @RSCRF. (cont)

great ticket packs will be out soon too #45FamPack (4tix, 4dogs, 4sodas), and the Scarf Pack(tix & Swarm Scarf) (cont)

and of course pro-rated #SeasonTickets are still available, buy 2, get 2 half off – great deals all around

With the team having a good shot at making the playoffs, what’s the playoff structure to win the championship?

Matt:    #knockonwood we have a good shot at playoffs. It’s a 3 rnd single elim, with 8 teams fighting for the #ChampionsCup!

To close, when the next game for the fast moving and high-energy #Swarm?

Matt:    Big Game in Calgary tomorrow night (watch live @ 8pm on http://www.mnswarm.com) and we’re on the road until 3/30

Joel:    Thanks Matt for your time today and talking about the #Swarm.  Have a great day! :)

Matt:    Thanks for having usl. Don’t forget to check out http://swarmrewards.com a fun social media program.

Lisa Clark, Owner of Mojo Monkey Donuts

Posted by on Wednesday, 29 February, 2012

Hello everyone! Welcome to a “sweet” Twitterview with the owner of @MojoDonuts, Lisa Clark. Lets get to tweeting!

So Lisa, lets get to know a little bit about you. Where did you grow up and go to school? @MojoDonuts

Lisa:    I grew up in both New Orleans and Minneapolis. I lived in N’awlins for 11 years….

That’s why Beignets are in my blood! I went to high school in New Orleans. Some college but I kept changing majors.

I see. So when you were a child and in your teen years, what did you think you wanted to be when you grew up?

Lisa:    When I was really young I wanted to be a lawyer. I believe donuts were a much better decision.

A battle of loopholes vs donut holes? :) So when did your interest in baking start for you?

Lisa:    I can remember as young as kindergarten having an interest….

The first thing I learned was how to fry an egg when I was 6 years old. From there it was onward and upwards.

Lets then move forward to today. When and how did the idea of a donut shop come to you Lisa?

Lisa:    Well, it is a culmination of things. First, my oldest daughter doesn’t like cake…

Every year on her birthday we would have donuts to celebrate instead of cake…

I never found great donuts in the Twin Cities and always thought great donuts need to be more accessible…

On my trips to Seattle I really felt inspired by their great donut culture….

That inspiration combined with my experience at Breadsmith made me think I could make this happen here in the cities.

Interesting. So how did you come to be at the location that you’re at in St.Paul? First choice?

Lisa:    I’ve always loved St. Paul. I actually had been looking for about a year and was very excited when this spot opened up…

I have a wonderful ad agency that actually did the research on the space for me…

I had a list of things that were important to me and they gave the thumbs up that this space met the criteria.

Wonderful!  What the story behind the name of your donut shop?  How did you come up with it?

Lisa:    My two youngest children actually named the shop..

It comes from their love of monkeys and a villain named Mojo JoJo from the cartoon series the Powerpuff Girls.

Great story! :) You offer a number of unique flavors of donuts. What made you go beyond the norm of choc/glazed?

Lisa:    That’s how we like to eat at home and I hoped that customers would like it too. So far, so good! :)

What are your 3 most popular donuts, and what kind of flour do you use in baking?

Lisa:    Raised ring with chocolate ganache, mango glaze and coconut ring and any of the fritters (apple or banana pecan)…

Bakers Patent, Pastry and Whole Wheat Flour…

And we have plans to start using locally sourced flour and dairy in the near future.

Awesome! Do you do curlers, eclairs, jelly filled or cream filled donuts? Do you think you’ll ever do breads?

Lisa:    Yes and yes! We do all the above except éclairs. We do have a cream filled Bismarck similar to an éclair though…

Customers can special requests. We have filled quite a few already…

We don’t ever want to say never, but breads aren’t on our current horizon

Lots of people like coffee with their donut. What brands and flavors do you offer?

Lisa:    We offer an entire organic fair trade coffee bar with all sorts of upgrades and sweet additions…

The beans are roasted locally by B&W coffee roasters.

Lots of donut talk gets me hungry! :) What are your hours of operation for when people can come for your tasty treats?

Lisa:    Tuesday-Friday 5:30 a.m.-3 p.m., Saturday-Sunday 6:30 a.m.-3 p.m.

Thank you for your time today Lisa! Read more about her and other MN donut shops on @MNMOmag hereArticle

Lisa:    My pleasure Joel! Stop by sometime and give us a try!
