Teah Strandjord – Twin Cities actress, producer and writer

Posted by on Wednesday, 21 November, 2012

Hello everyone! Welcome to the @MNMOmag Twitterview with @tstrandjord today. Lets get started #MNMOtv!

To start off with. Your movie, #ThreeWeeks premiered recently. How did that go and what feedback did you get?

Teah:    @TCFilmFest screening was sold out! Went well and great feedback. @BenUtecht did a great job acting the lead role.

The @BenUtecht that played in the NFL? How did you connect with him, and how long did #ThreeWeeks take to develop?

Teah:    I met @BenUtecht producing a spot for allina helmet safety. #threeweeks took 6 months going on 7 for under 20 min TRT!

Good to make connections like that! Where did the story of #threeweeks come from? Do you enjoy writing?

Teah:    The story came from a collection of real-life experiences, news articles, and whimsy. Writing is tough but fun

Interesting. Share a little about yourself. Where you grew up and what kinds of things interested you as a child.

Teah:    I grew up all over: WI, AZ, AK, MN. I was always in arts. Music, dance, theatre, and even art metals. Art was “home”

I see. So when did the “movie bug” hit you? How many movies have you appeared in and or produced?

Teah:    I did my first nat’l commercial in 2001 & I was a goner. I loved being on set. The lights and the camera and the people.

I’ve appeared in & produced more TV and commercials than movies. So far, 5 movies, 3 of which are short films I produced.

Does MN have a good movie production “network” in your mind? What’s your next project?

Teah:    The MN film prod community is full of talented people who support each other, work hard, and make beautiful stuff. It’s a really great place to be able to work with a lot of experienced pros to learn from.

I’m back in front of the camera for a while. In audition mode at the moment. Hope to have more exciting news soon! From there, looking for the next short to write and direct.

Thank you for your time. It’s an honor to be interviewed by MNMOtv!!

To everyone following #MNMOtv, Twitter was acting up today (Oct 17th), so please excuse the flow of Tweets or lack there of. Thanks for following. :)

Stephanie Curtis of Minnesota Public Radio

Posted by on Tuesday, 5 June, 2012

Good afternoon everybody! Today’s interview with @stephcurtis is going to begin now! The 5th one I’ve done with a Stephanie. :)

I hope to make all Stephanies proud.

And I”ll remember the hashtag from now on.

I’m pretty sure you will! So to start, tell us about where you grew up and went to school?

Stephanie:    Arden Hills! (A place no one had heard of until a year ago.) Then I went to @CarletonCollege. (Never got far from MN.)

Good point! :) So when you were growing up, what kind of things were you interested in and involved with?

Stephanie:    I was a book reader/Film watcher. Haven’t changed much. I’d go 2 the Varsity & Cedar Theaters 2 see old movies. Still love a musty theater.

The one sport I did was speedskating but the 5:00 AM start times (& my lack of skill) brought an end to that.

Speedskating huh? Interesting. At least when you fall, you already have ice right? :) What kind of movies do you like?

Stephanie:    Anything. I’m omnivorous. But if there is any film I’m more interested in than the average person, it is MGM musicals.

My fav film is The Red Shoes. Said that on the air & got flack from people who saw it & loathed it. I still recommend it. #OTT

I see. So what did you take at @CarletonCollege, and how did you end up at MPR?

Stephanie:    I studied lit & film. All I wanted 2 do when I graduated was work in #pubradio. Got an internship. Never left.

MPR has had so many great jobs for me over the yrs. There’s a lot of room to grow, expand & explore things.

What kinds of things to you currently handle with your job right now at MPR?

Stephanie:    We started a new show, #dailycircuit, in Feb. I handle our social media outreach. How do we engage the audience beyond the call-in?

I also am 1 of the @cubecritics w/ my friend @euankerr. We talk moveis every week. I do it on The Current 2.

The busiest part of the day is 9 2 noon, when the show is on air. There’s lots of juggling of Twitter, FB, blogging & live radio.

I’d imagine so. I can relate to that. :) How has the “social response” been to the #dailycircuit in general?

Stephanie:    Positive. (Some non-social media-types complain.) What I’ve found: People want 2 interact a lot of places.

And they really want to interact in a meaningful way. The responses on all platforms r as thoughtful as our callers.

Since you’re a big movie fan, what films do you feel are going to do well this Summer, starting in May?

Stephanie:    Do well? Avengers. GI Joe Retaliation. Amazing Spiderman. Be good? #Prometheus. I don’t get Abe Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. #mystified

I’m excited 2 see Baz Luhrman’s Gatsby later this year. Love The Great Gatsby more & more every yr. PLus, dying to see The Hobbit.

Any small budget films that you see being popular with the general public?

Stephanie:    Bachelorette, a movie from Sundance, will probably find an audience.

Favorite and least favorite movie theater in Minnesota? Best concession stand for your buck in Minnesota?

Stephanie:    The Riverview & The Heights: beauties. Showplace Icon: I love reserved seats & having a beer while watching the film.

Nearly forgot to mention that I’m excited about MN native Tippi Hedren’s return to the screen: Free Samples.

In the end, I’m not a concession stand person. I see so many films. If ate at that them all…I’d be in trouble.

Since we’re almost at the end, I wanted to ask you about all of the 3D movies. Too many? Gimmicky or beneficial?

Stephanie:    SO many of them r bad. But when they r good, they’re beautiful. Hugo. Avatar. Cave of Forgotten Dreams.

That said, I think it is a gimmick that will fade. Unless the 3D Great Gatsby changes something.

Joel:    Thank you very much Stephanie for your time and for sharing some of your cinema insights. Have a great afternoon!

Stephanie:    Thanks Joel. This was fun. I think I’ll slip out and see a movie right now.

Twitterview with Vera Sweeney

Posted by on Monday, 28 November, 2011

Good morning everyone! Lets start off the day with a Twitterview with a #CyberQueen like @VeraSweeney. Time for the fun to start! #jectv

Q – #1    So to begin @VeraSweeney, please share with us where you grew up and went to High School?

Vera:    I grew up in Astoria Queens – and went to St. John’s Prep

Q – #2    I see, so what was your next “life step” after High School? What interested you as far as job opportunities?

Vera:    I went to college in Albany and became a business consultant for both Accenture and Ernst and Young

I loved it but I wanted to do more coding and they kept putting me in front of the client.

Q – #3    Interesting. So how long did you stay on that course until you shifted to @imnotobsessed and other cyber ventures?

Vera:    After 9/11 I decided that I didn’t want to stay in a job that I didn’t LOVE. It took me a year, but I finally quit

Ended up teaching computers to K-8 at a local school in Queens. Did that for a few years and was happy

But then I got pregnant, was placed on bedrest, and then eventually became a stay at home mom

After 3 months or so of being home, I started to look for outlet. That’s when @imnotobsessed was born

It started out as a hobby – but then it just really caught on. Thats when I started to take it seriously

Q – #4    Great story! So about how many regular followers do you have for @imnotobsessed? An entertainment or gossip blog?

Vera:    I think we get about 5 million views a month on @imnotobsessed

Uniques are around 1.5 million

we write about gossip but it’s always PG rated

that was important for me because – as a mom – I never wanted to feel bad about my gig

Q – #5    Good for you! :) What is your source or sources for photos and info that you post? What has trended lately?

Vera:    I buy all my photos from WENN, FAME, and FLYNET

And after 6 years of blogging, I’ve ended up on a TON of PR blasts. I get most of my info from my email.

whats trending lately? Anything Twilight, pregnancies, Lohan, and Kardashian lol!

Q – #6    Is there any person or couple that you’re just TIRED of hearing about at this point?

Vera:    lol @JoelECarlson I dont want to insult anyone. There are some die hard fans out there. I never write negatively about celebs

Q – #7    I understand. Have you been able to parlay your @imnotobsessed blog to other biz opportunities or star connections?

Vera:    Ive had some great opportunities – done a few red carpet events, got a trip to costa rica to be on set for reality show

I’m so thankful @JoelECarlson ive been very blessed. It’s been a great ride. And I hope I have a few more years in me

Truthfully, these days most of my event invites come from http://ladyandtheblog.com though…

Q – #8    When you’re not taking care of your family and working on @imnotobsessed, what other interests take up your time?

Vera:    I love to read (when I can), play tennis during the warmer months, TRAVEL TRAVEL TRAVEL. My fav hobby

I spend all day on the computer – so all my hobbies are offline.

Q – #9    Now some of your FAVORITES: Restaurant, comfort food, social media platform, recent book and celeb blogger.

Vera:    Ok! @JoelECarlson Fav Restaurant – La Nonna Bella in Long Island, Rosa Mexicana in NYC, Benihana (yeah I said it), Otto in NYC

Fav comfort food @JoelECarlson : fried chicken and colombian food (steak, rice, beans, plaintains)

Fav social media platform @JoelECarlson – Facebook – I find more interaction on that tool (twitter is second)

Fav recent book @JoelECarlson The Black Dagger Brotherhood (entire series) it’s like vampire porn so watch out, and The Hunger Games

Fav celeb blogger @JoelECarlson – dont have any. Is that bad? :)

Q – #10    Nope. You are your own creative leader. Do you think @imnotobsessed will ever include videos? (YouTube)

Vera:    I embed video (trailers etc) but I dont think I do enough to have my own YouTube channel.

Q – #11    To close. If you could have a meal with any one person (dead/alive), who would you pick and why?

Vera:    aw man that is a hard one. I guess I would pick… @JensenAckles__ (just kidding… or am i?)

no seriously I would choose my grandfather – miss him dearly.

@JoelECarlson:    That’s sweet! :) Thank you very much for your time and comments today. Enjoy the rest of your week. Regards! :)

Vera:    thank you for interviewing me! had fun :)

Twitterview with Shayne Wells

Posted by on Wednesday, 9 March, 2011

@JoelECarlson – Hello everyone, and welcome to the Twitterview of upbeat and energetic reporter @ShayneWellsMSP. Lets get to Tweet’n!

Shayne: let’s do this (said energetically, haha)…

Q – #1    So @ShayneWellsMSP, you’ve lived primarily on the West Coast. How are you adapting to the Midwest?

Shayne: Not going to lie, it’s been a challenge. I’ve never lived anywhere with humidity, tornadoes and temps that drop to -15.

On the other hand, it’s toughened me up.

Q – #2    What are some things that stand out to you in the Midwest, besides the weather, that are different from the W coast?

Shayne: I grew up eating casseroles, had never even heard of a hot dish, ha.

But really, the Midwest has a lot of Midwest specific foods (we didn’t really have those growing up in WA).

I’ve lived in 5 states now and this was by far the hardest to make friends, but once you’re in, you’re in, loyalty is big here.

I do love how the weather doesn’t intimidate people from going out (like it did in CA).

Q – #3    Lots of “hearty stock” in MN. :)  Lets shift gears. Explain a little bit about how you got interested in entertainment reporting?

Shayne: I really have done it all. I started out doing weekend weather in CO, anchoring in ID, and reporting in CA.

Doing it all made me realize hard news is not me. I’m bubbly, and I love to have fun. Ent. reporting was just a better fit for me

Though I also love sports and I can’t say I won’t be making that shift in the future!

Q – #4    So maybe @ShayneWellsMSP on @ESPN?  What kind of topics do you cover with @KARE11 and @MetroMixTC?

Shayne: Would love to cover college football! @ESPN, call me ;-)

At @kare11 and @MetromixTC I cover all things fun, restaurants, music, celebrities, fashion, bars. Tough job, someone’s got to do it

Q – #5    Variety is good! Now to your FAVORITES: Restaurant, store, winter activity, comfort food & recent guest or event.

Shayne: Fave restaurant: Bryant Lake Bowl (great breakfast and grilled cheese), store: Nordstrom/Anthropologie, Winter Activity:snowmobiling

Fave comfort food: biscuits & gravy (still trying to find the Twin Cities best, Mill City Café is a contender)

Fave recent guest: Topher Grace or @ModSun (Bloomington rapper), fave event: Pub & Putt (so fun).

Q – #6    Good answers. Has Social Media had any effect on how you do your job? Who does your video and editing?

Shayne: When I started in news, there was no Twitter and Facebook wasn’t being utilized by anyone other than college kids.

Social media has changed things quite a bit, in a good way. Makes finding stories and connecting with people much easier.

I shoot, write and edit all my own stories.

Q – #7    @ShayneWellsMSP is a 1-woman crew! Not an easy task. To end, what advice would you share with those looking into your field of work?

Shayne: It’s not glamorous, or easy, but it is rewarding. The thing that’s helped me the most is a willingness to take risks

I believe if you want something bad enough you can make it happen.

thanks for having me!

@JoelECarlson – Thank You! Have a great day and enjoy the fresh snow. :)

Twitterview with Katie Schutrop

@JoelECarlson – Happy Monday to everyone! Today’s Twitterview is with @kshoop of @MetromixTC, so lets start this party!

@kshoop - Ready to go!

Q – #1    So @kshoop, where did you grow up, where did you go to college, and what local social-media/news/blogger helped you?

A: Born and raised in St. Louis Park (Go Orioles!) and proud @MarquetteU alum…

Actually, Mr. @DerushaJ played a part in me choosing @MarquetteU. Met w/ him (a fellow alum) as a HS senior for coffee

…where he gave me all the ins and outs of the College of Comm and what to do in MKE. Thanks @derushaj! cc @marquetteu

Q – #2    Good to get insights from people! So @kshoop what did you take at @marquetteu for courses? What do you do at @metromixTC?

A: Took PR & marketing courses for my major. Also a handful of dance classes (favorite course = African dance)

At @MetromixTC I am the marketing & social media coordinator. Lots of event & content planning & managing our SM sites

Q- #3    What kinds of things do you feature with @MetroMixTC, and who are your target audience?

A: Metromix is @kare11′s arts & entertainment site. So any happenings around the cities, restaurant/concert reviews…

event photos, and a ton of other fun stuff in between. Our audience tends to focus around the 21-35 demo

Q – #4    Cool! Now in your “spare time”, you also operate a MeetUp group as well. What is the group and what’s the focus of it?

A: I organize @YPCTC which is a monthly networking group aimed at those starting out in the comm industry

The idea is to allow others in similar stages of their careers to meet, network & be a resource to one another

This month marks @YPCTC’s 1 year anniversary which is crazy to me. I’ve met some really great ppl through the events

Q – #5    Can you share any plans or ideas for upcoming @YPCTC events?

A: Yes! The next @YPCTC will be at @Trygs on Wed., January 26 from 5:30 – 8. Planning on posting the FB event 2day.

Q – #6    Lets shift gears. How long have you been using Social Media personally, and what’s your favorite platform?

A: I had a blog w/ a friend in HS. I started using FB when it was “The Facebook” in 2004. So a while!

Favorite platform? Facebook for personal use, Twitter for networking & Foursquare for stalking all of my crushes…

…JK on the stalking part (kind of ;) ) But I love foursquare for getting tips when I’m out and about

Q – #7    Casual stalking huh? :) So do you have any unique badges? Do you contribute tips on @Foursquare?

A: Unique badges? I got a Real Housewives badge once. Maybe it’s foreshadowing? I do contribute tips…the best part!

Metromix offers tips on Foursquare that we help contribute to as well. Follow us at foursquare.com/metromix

Q – #8    FAVORITES Question: Restaurant, store (1 brick/mortar & 1 online), winter activity and Twin Cities neighborhood.

A: Restaurant? Hard to say. I heart Mexican so I’ll go with Pepitos in Minneapolis. Yum!

Store: @clicherocks & LEN Druskin Outlet. Online: Probably ModCloth.com

Winter activity: Going to/watching hockey…college, high school & (hopefully for the 1st time this year) the @mnwild

Neighborhood: I’m an Uptown girl. That one’s easy.

Q – #9    Sure! Do you have any personal or professional goals that you’re targeting for this year?

A: One professional is to help bring @MetromixTC’s & @kare11′s SM presence to the next level. Fun projects in the works!

A personal goal is to find more of a balance between work & personal life. A tough task when so much of what I do relates to

…what I love to do outside of the office.

Q – #10    To end today @kshoop, what mantra or job-searching advice would you care to share with those following today?

A: Since I’ve been little I’ve been told you get what you pay for which has held true for me in job searching and reaching

all my other personal goals.

@JoelECarlson – Nice. Thank you @kshoop for your time today, and best wishes with your new job and the @YPCTC group!

@kshoop – Thanks much!
