Twitterview #141 – With Justin Ware (@WarehouseMedia)

Posted by on Tuesday, 31 August, 2010

@JoelECarlson – Hello everybody, and welcome to #jectv Twitterviews. Today’s guest is @WarehouseMedia, so we have a LOT to cover. Let go! :)

@WarehouseMedia – Ready and willing, good sir!

Q – #1    Great! First off, how did you come up with @WarehouseMedia as your Twitter handle, and were did you grow up?

A:    My Twit handle is an homage to my HS football coach who LOVED screaming “WAREHOUSE” to get my attention (Ware is my last name)

I grew up in Cold Spring (just outside of St. Cloud) Minnesota.

Oh …and Warehouse Media Service is the little company I own and operate (Shameless plug)

Q – #2    Does it get warm in Cold Spring? :D Seriously though, what led you from school to what you do today for work?

A:    Graduated from the #UMN in journalism and worked as a TV reporter/anchor for about five years. Got a job at the U…

…doing PR, which quickly morphed into video-based social media work. Now, I’m out on my own doing the same work.

Q – #3    I see. So what kind of clients (fields) do you typically work with, and what kind of videos do you create?

A:    My focus is on producing bulk-rate video content. To get noticed and to keep people coming back, you need a lot of good video.

Of course, good video can be expensive. Since I’m a lean (one-man) operation, I can produce video for less if I have a long-

-term commitment from a client that says they’ll be sticking with me for several months’ worth of videos. Clients range from

…renewable energy organizations, to non-profits to education institutions like the U of M.

However, the “bulk-rate” video plans aside, I’m also happy to do single video projects for an hourly rate!

Q – #4    As a small biz owner, how have you been able to use Social Media to assist you? Which tools do you use?

A:    Good relationships with many pple are imperative for small biz owners. Soc med helps create/build those relationships

I have my hand in as many tools as possible, but my main focus is on YouTube, supported by Facebook, blogs & Twitter.

Q – #5    That makes sens. Who are a few people that yo follow on Twitter that you find you benefit from connecting with them?

A:    A couple tweeters who’ve gone out of their way to help me include: @AgencyBabylon @JRChris (follow them!)

I learn a lot from dozens of tweeters I follow – Too many to name, but I retweet them as often as I can!

Q – #6    ReTweets are good, if done properly. Now for your FAVS: Favorite – restaurant, store, summer activity and gadget.

A:    Fav restaurant: Se Salt — store: REI — summer activity: Skiing in the Andes (cold & snowy in the south hemisphere summers!)

If I have to stay in Minnesota? Fav summer activity are Twins games or something on a lake/river.

Favorite gadget? Inspector.

CORRECTION! The favorite restaurant’s correct spelling is Sea Salt (In Minneapolis’ Minnehaha Park)

Q – #7    Nice place! :) If you could invite 1 person (dead/alive) to dinner, who would you invite and why?

A:    Jesus. So I could record the conversation, post it and have the only interview with Jesus on @YouTube. :)

Q – #8    Oh my! Well to end today with (Justin Ware) @WarehouseMedia, what encouragement of mantra would you like to share today?

A:    Whatever you do, never do anything in your own self interest if it causes hardship or pain for someone else.

@JoelECarlson – Thank you @WarehouseMedia for your comments and time today. Have a great afternoon and see you at @Caribou_Coffee on 9/21.

@WarehouseMedia – Much thanks to @JoelECarlson for todays Twitterview! #jectv For an archive of past Twitterviews, check out: http://www.joelsviews.com/

@JoelECarlson – Hello everybody and welcome to the Twitterview of @printerpete. Lets rock! :)

@printerpete – Thanks Joel!

Q – #1    So @PrinterPete, please share where you grew up and what got you to where you are today?

A:    I grew up in Hastings and pretty much spent my entire life in MN. I’d say there was a lot of chance involved in getting me here!

Q – #2    I’ll rephrase that and ask how did you get into printing after you finished school?

A:    I was selling advertising for the Duluth college newspaper and wanted to be involved in print media. My first job was in Marketing

Q – #3    @PrinterPete – What did you do after marketing?

A:    Well..I took a 2 yr break and became a House Painter, painting for my business partner. We had an idea to start a printing co.

Q – #4    I see, so what kind of printing do you do? For large & small biz? Any specialty items that you print on?

A:    We do it all! (sorry) I seem to have a niche running things that ordinary printers won’t, like window clings, magnets and even fabric

Q – #5    Good to know! More about you @PrinterPete, what are your FAVS: Favorite – restaurant, store, summer activity & music genre?

A:    I love to eat at Sweet Tomatoes, but none in the TCarea :( All my shopping is on eBay. I’m a BWCA fanatic and luv electronic/ambie

Q – #6    Okay. Well how has you “experience” been so far using Social Media tools? Has @SocialNicole’s tutoring helped?

A:    I have completely turned the corner on Social Media! It’s now my primary marketing focus.@SocialNicole has turned me into a believer.

Q – #7    Great! How can 500mil FB users not be a great target market? So to end, what thought or mantra would you like to share?

A:    I’ve always believed that “attitude is everything” No matter what your situation, something good can come from it

@JoelECarlson – Well thank you for your comments and your time today @PrinterPete!  Keep printing with a purpose!

@printerpete – Will do! Thanks for the opportunity, Joel! We’ll keep the presses rollin’ :)

Twitterview #139 – With Kartin Loss (@katrinloss)

Posted by on Friday, 27 August, 2010

@JoelECarlson – Hope everyone is having a fabulous Friday! Lets start the Twitterview of @KatrinLoss to get going.

@katrinloss – Hi @JoelECarlson. How are you today?

Q – #1    So @KatrinLoss, tell us, where did you grown up and what were some of the life steps that you took to get you where you are today?

A:    I’ve been fortunate to live in 2 of the most beautiful cities – Mpls and Hamburg – while growing up, thx to my parents.

Lots of detours: degrees in Business, English and Graphic Design; stints at Panasonic, Best Buy, Barnes & Noble, and 3M among others.

When I finally enrolled @MCAD my plan was to study photography… and fell in love with design.

Q – #2    I’m getting better today. Thx! :) @KatrinLoss – So what kind of work do you do now, and what kind of projects have you done?

A:    In a nutshell: I help people remember their favorite brand.

I develop and lead all aspects of the creative process from inception, concept development and design execution, …

… project management, to final production. Every client and project is unique – that’s why I like about being a designer.

“what” not “why” :D

Q – #3    Rookie Twitterviewer. :) So how have you been to adapting to the various Social Media tools that have been developed?

@katrinloss -  You’re cheating on me tweeting with other people while I talk…

@JoelECarlson – I’m a “double-Tweeter”! :) It’s not okay to multi-Tweet/task? More focus on @KatrinLoss then. :)

@katrinloss – Someone had to call you out on it :D

A:    I’m not sure I’ve adapted to social media tools. I use them + keep wondering… What’s next? How will it evolve? Mutate?

Q – #4    Interesting reasoning! Well who are some people that you follow on Twitter that you’ve benefited from connecting with?

A:    Twitter enabled me to connect with other designers and #AIGA members all over the country/world.

I like the diversity: finding out about new things+events, learning tips&tricks, seeing what other ppl are up to or just to humor me.

And it was nice meeting you IRL ;)

Q – #5    Lets shift gears and go to your FAVS – Favorite: restaurant, store, summer activity and gadget?

A:    Restaurant: Don’t really have one… just a favorite dish/dessert at places like Lurcat, Lucia’s, MASA, Punch, Café Latte, etc.

You’re more likely to find me at a coffee shop (than a restaurant). The best latté? A toss up between Spyhouse and Rustica. Store:

Any bookstore – brick&mortar and online – and any place that sells music.

Summer activity: Keep me near any body of water and I’m happy. If it involves a camp fire even better.

Q – #6    FAVE Gadget? Also, to end today – what thought or mantra would you like to share with everyone?

A:    *sorry distracted by sth work related* Gadget: I’ve always been a huge fan of all of kinds of electronics…

If you’re looking at the sun, you won’t see a shadow.” – Helen Keller

@JoelECarlson – Thank you @KatrinLoss for you comments and time today. It was nice to meet you IRL as well. Have a great weekend!

@katrinloss – Thanks for the chat @JoelECarlson. Have a great weekend yourself. Be well!

@petebocken – Thanks for having me Joel!

Q – #1    So @petebocken, where did you grow up and what were some of the life steps that you’ve taken to get you where you are today?

A:    Grew up in La Crosse, WI. Always lived and breathed tech! Started with keyboarding class back in Kindergarten…

Took a bunch of photography, art, tech classes in HS.

Just couldn’t escape computers. They were a good way to express myself.

Did some IT here and there, but I really took to web design.

Q – #2    So what kind of work do you do now, and what kind of clients do you have?

A:    Help out @westwords_paula at Westwords Consulting, web dev/design for the most part. IT support, the techy geeky stuff.

Clients range from single individuals to large corps.

Q – #3    So how quick of an adapter were you to Social Media, and which ones have you used?

A:    MySpace first, left that quick! Then Facebook for friends, family. Twitter more for work networking, new relationships

LinkedIn for …. i don’t know, haven’t had much use for that yet. But I’ve connected to everyone i’ve worked with.

Q – #4    I see. Have you used any of the geolocation tools like Foursquare, Gowalla or Facebooks new one called Places?

A:    I knew you would ask! ;) No! Not for me. Don’t like the idea. Plus everyone would know I don’t leave the house much!

Q – #5    Hahaha! That’s okay. Do you have some people that you feel you’ve benefited from following on Twitter?

A:    I’ll plug @SocialNicole cause she’s been trying to get me to use Twitter for some time now. Think I finally stuck

Follow everything @chriscoyier does for web dev, design, css, wordpress

I use TweetDeck, so I’ll just use searches a lot for stuff i’m watching to keep an eye on

Q – #6    Ah. Any new technologies, hardware, apps or software on the horizon that you think will be a “game changer” soon?

A:    Mobile has obviously skyrocketed the last few years. That will continue.

Hopefully standardization on social networks continues as well as data liberation.

I see casual computing not needing a typical computer, we are seeing that with what Google is doing
