Commute to work – Drive or Ride?

Posted by on Wednesday, 21 July, 2010

Driving too and from work can be a challenge all by itself. Is there any road construction?  Are there any accidents on your regular course to get to work?  Are the roads wet, icy or snow covered?  You may live close to your work (5-30 minutes), or you may have to drive a distance to get to work (45min – 2hrs). Lots of things to consider when you plan about driving to work.  Could you ride instead of drive to work?

More and more cities are providing public transportation for people in more and more convenient locations. Bus lines, light-rail and commuter trains all can provide the public with a means to get to work with not having to worry about driving themselves.  Think about it.  You can go to work and NOT worry about traffic.  You can sit and read a book, a magazine or your newspaper while you drive to work.  You can think about what lies ahead for you for that day or what you will do when you get home that evening, like spending time with your family, friends or both.  You can relax and get rid of your driver anxiety.  So there are a number of pluses in taking public transportation.  There can be some issues though too.  What is the schedule?  How many stops does it make between where you would get on and where you would get off of it?  There can be a balance of time vs need when considering taking public transportation.  Have you ever considered using public transportation over driving yourself to work ever day?  Maybe you could use public transportation some of the time and drive yourself on days when you really need access to your own vehicle.

Have you looked into public transportation options in your neighborhood?  It might provide you with peace of mind and time to plan out your day. Isn’t that what everybody wants?
