Twitterview #104 – With Pat Laeger (@patlaeger)

@JoelECarlson – Good morning to everyone following today’s Twitterview of @patlaeger. Time to get tweet’n!

@patlaeger – Hey! Good morning! I’m all dressed up and rady to go! @JoelECarlson http://yfrog.com/cbd0tkj

Q – #1    To start of with – Where did you grown up, and what are some of the steps you took to get where you are today?

A:    I was raised here in MN (moved here when I was 6). Graduated from Shakopee High School.

Through some trial and error after high school, I finally found @NorthwesternMN and got my degree in broadcasting.

I interned w/ @ks95 during my junior year of college. Started working w/ @moonandstaci my senior year and they kept me!

Q – #2    So what was your role as an intern, and what do you do now for the @moonandstaci program?

A:    As an intern, I worked with the commercials and promos to put them into our system so they would air correctly.

With @moonandstaci, I do a lot of babysitting. Moon can be a handful! :) I’m their producer – I’m behind the scenes.

I screen calls, edit phone calls and interviews, schedule guests, coordinate with sales people…. and more.

Q – #3    Did he invent the moonwalk? When he’s depressed, it is a blue-moon? :) So you’re busy. Have you met any celebrities?

A:    I get to meet some famous people, & I get the glory of knowing @moonandstaci (IDK if glory is the right word though…)

Keeping with the multimedia in this twitterview, here’s another visual aid. Me with Hulk Hogan!@JoelECarlson http://yfrog.com/112h9lj

I have met Jared Fogle with his big pants. Staci and I each wanted to get in a leg, but Jared wouldn’t let us.

Q – #4    So how has Social Media helped you, either in your work, personally or both?

A:    SM helps me, personally, stalk… I mean keep tabs… I mean catch up with friends w/o actually talking to them.

Because, who actually wants to talk to each other now-a-days! :)

As for SM professionally, it’s a great way to see what other radio/media folks are doing that’s working or not working.

SM also gives us (as a radio station) more ways to connect with listeners, and share more with them.

I have met a lot of great people through SM. Great networking/conversational tool that I don’t think I could live w/o.

Q – #5    Good point. So who are 5-10 people that you follow for inspiration, humor or education?

A:    Well, @jasonboyett is really funny. So is @scottmcclellan. @MichealHyatt is very good on leadership.

For inspiration, @perrynoble, @RickWarren, and @stevenfurtick are awesome! I love following you and the twitterviews.

I love hearing what @DeRushaJ says. I’m jealous of @ericamayer, @GRLitman and company that get to work with him.

Q – #6    Thanks man! Now for the FAVS portion: Favorite – restaurant, offline store, summer activity and gadget.

A:    Favorite restaurant: I love Joe’s Crab Shack. Fire Lake Grill downtown is really good, but Chipotle is up there too…

How’s that for picking “a” favorite? :) haha!

Offline store: I could spend hours upon hours in Best Buy. I applied to work there once, but they didn’t hire me.

Favorite gadget: Easy! My iPad! You even got to play with it! Can my favorite summer activity be playing with my iPad?

In the summer, I love to disc golf. I picked up regular golf last summer, and am working to get better at that too.

Q – #7    Neat! So to end today – What thought or mantra would you like to share with everyone today?

A:    Ooooo…this is the part where I’m supposed to be motivational & original. Hopefully I don’t buckle under the pressure.

I always tell myself this, and I hope it works as a closing mantra. (Do you feel the suspense? How’s this for a tease?)

Never let anyone tell you you’re too young (or old, or slow, or whatever) to do something. Just get up and do it!

Don’t even bother to take time to prove them wrong. That’s a waste of time and energy – do it because you want to.

@JoelECarlson – Very good! Age isn’t a mark of wisdom or ability, it just measures time. Thanks @patlaeger for your time and comments today.

@patlaeger – Thank you, @JoelECarlson! I had fun. *insert virtual handshake here*
